a Million uses for the Rolex Deepsea..

So.. what is a 6 grand rolex deepsea good for? Besides telling time and looking smart on any man's wrist.. it also makes a perfect "wedge". ..that's right.. just like how the old school mahjong players use soysauce plates to make their table stable...

Seen here, is a deepsea used as a wedge, to keep a box of 7 audemars piguet royal oaks at perfect viewing angle!! (+ the PP Nautilus). .. about 200K give of take a little. . .

that's right, little rollie, know your role!

New Lens! *kinda* canon 24-105 L

So I pick this up last week, finally bought it back to the office to use.. and also make this first pic. by comparison, it's very very similar.. except that all the buttons and rings don't move... I tried on the lens cap...too bad that didn't fit, otherwise I'd have got a nice lid for my cup.. the walls are thicker, so maybe I'll get a 76 or 75mm one! the hood, on the other hand, kinda fits!! (doesn't lock on!)

They CLAIM it's made in JAPAN and uses foodgrade PP. .. let's hope so!!

anyways, so I walked into the pantry to give it a wash before i use it, and the tea lady got freaked out asking why I'm literally WASHING my lens! I told her it's just a cup! hahahha..

Aperture 3 or save $200 towards the iPad

I'm considering if I should upgrade to Aperture 3. .the only thing I really want out of it is the native support for RAW files from my E-P2. .. i mean, I'm getting by with the RAW converter by Pauwels...

so I guess it's okay! any other features I should be looking out for in Aperture 3 ?? or should I just save the $200 and use it towards my iPad.. $200 is a bit more than 1/3 of an iPad already!!

New Rolex Submariner announced at Baselworld: Green on Green

Seriously? green on green?? I know Rolex always makes their "special" edition stuff green, but isn't this  a bit too much green? Supposingly it comes with ceramic bezel.. available in Green bezel green face, and black face.. (but if it's the black face, then it'd just look exactly like the 50th anniversary one)?

Photo Journal: Fortress Hill - the place where we call home

On a nice Sunday afternoon late in March, I casually stroll thru the streets which I rush thru everyday. Part of the morning and evening rush like everything in this city... Slow down and breath in what make Fortress Hill: Our home. (photos taken with Leica M6, CV 15mm lens, Fuji Proplus2 film).

New Pen & Leather notebook

I'd just want to share a pic of my new leather notebook and pen. The notebook I got from citysuper. the skin WAS an ugly beige-y pink leather..but I knew it had potentials! after some coffee/tea staining, I set the thing on fire!! i think it looks pretty good.

OH... the pen I got from work! ha! it's one of the best ball point pen I've ever used! if you were at the supplier summit, you probably got one too! Kudos to the stationary dept for this round!

Pentax Auto 110 x Olympus E-P2 on m43, test shots

The adapter for the Pentax Auto 110 to Micro 4/3 finally arrived after a week. I got it off ebay from jinfinance, he's a reliable seller and very professional. I'd highly recommend it! The adapter itself is of good quality. Even though the seller mentioned there's some light leaks, I don't notice any when installed. The mount, like any other china mount can be a hit or miss, the one I got was okay.. nice fit on the body side, a bit tight on the lens side. I use the 50mm to loosen it up a bit by repeatedly installing and removing. Much smoother now.

The Pentax Auto 110 lens are design for the 110 film format. The size is very similar to the sensor on the E-P2. Making full utilization of the lens without leaving much of a vignette. I've tested the  24mm and 50mm... all 2 came out decent. I still have a 18mm at home, but not caps so it's mounted to my Pentax body sitting inside the dehumidifier. Like the newer canon lens, the aperture of these are controlled by the body, there's no aperture ring on the lens and it remains wide open at 2.8!

Test shots below, first two 50mm, last two 24mm:

Notice the shallow DOF and the sharpness! Now my gear can leave a even smaller footprint!

Review: Ambertation's LightMeter for iPhone 3Gs

A few days ago, I downloaded the $2.99 app call LightMeter. The developer claims:
With LightMeter you can turn your iPhone 3G-S into a simple exposure meter. LightMeter makes use of the new auto focus camera built into the iPhone 3G-S to determine the exposure of any scene you capture. Simply start LightMeter, take a photo and read the exposure for that scene from the exposure dial. It really is as easy as that.

So far, I 'm very impressed!!! I've made comparison to my $100 Sekonic Twinmate L-208 analogue meter, my Canon 40D, and my Olympus E-P2's built in light meter. The result is consistant.. about 1/3 to 1 stop over everytime! (or about half a EV value)

Well, you might say it's not accurate... but the thing is, every light meter is a bit different, and I haven't developed the roll I've taken with my Rollei 35 to compare..but I must say, @ $2.99, you really can't complain!!!  AND WHEN it's C O N S I S T E N T like this,  I can just use it's built in "filter" setting to minus 2/3 of a stop so it's "calibrated"

More details on the app here on their official website

If you're shooting analogy all the time, you should probably have a very good idea of exposure under most situations. But if you happen to be using a iPhone 3Gs already, a few bucks would allow you to have a meter with you ALL THE TIME!!! now who wouldn't want that!
